Client Corner: Retirement is Everything We Hoped it Would Be

In Articles, Articles: Salt Lake City Office, SLC Fall 2024 by Scott Dougan

Toby and I retired 2 1/2 years ago after long careers with the federal government. At first, we were concerned about staying busy, but soon found ourselves taking classes at the U of U, playing pickleball, golfing, hiking, and doing volunteer taxes. Needless to say, our days are filled! We are also determined to live these “go go” years to their fullest because we know they can end before you know it. With that in mind, we’ve been traveling a lot, both to see family and the world. We discovered a company called “Backroads,” that provides biking, hiking/walking, and multi-adventure trips around the world. They specialize in active vacations that get you off the beaten path. In June we took their hiking/walking tour to the Amalfi Coast. This was, by far, the best guided tour either of us have gone on to date! We also just returned from a trip to Greece led by a retired professor of Classics and Mythology.   Highlights of that trip were running the track at the site of the original Olympics, a sunset cruise in Santorini, hearing mythology stories in their historical settings, and of course, the food.  We feel so fortunate–our lives are full, and we truly wonder how we had time to work!
