2025 Summer Newsletter: Salt Lake City
As with most summers, my family and I have been busy, and mostly with baseball.
We just got home after spending a week in Cooperstown, New York (upstate). Our son, Michael, played in the famous 12-year-olds-only national Cooperstown tournament. He, his teammates and us coaches got to stay in a bunkhouse together for a week at one of the most beautiful and expansive ballparks I’ve ever seen. We played a lot of baseball games but also spent time meeting teams from all over the country, playing wiffle ball and trading pins. We got to spend some time in “downtown” Cooperstown, visiting the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame and shopping at the many baseball-themed shops along Main Street. As my wife said, “It’s Disneyland for baseball lovers!” It truly was. It’s an experience we’ll never forget.
Earlier this summer our family traveled to Boston for my niece’s high school graduation, and to catch a Red Sox game (of course). We had a good time in Boston, but we were happy to get back to hot, dry Utah. That rain and humidity on the East Coast is no joke!
For the second year in a row, I was an assistant coach for Juan Diego High School’s baseball program. It was very rewarding. They have a great group of boys who play there. I also help coach my son’s team, so it was a little chaotic this Spring, but well worth it. High school has been done for a bit now. And my son’s baseball season is wrapping up this month. We’ll take some time off now…before Fall baseball begins.
And just when we thought things would slow down now that baseball is ending…here comes football season. Our daughter, Coraline, made the varsity cheer team again this year. High school football starts in August…no rest for the weary. Coraline will be a Junior this year which is making us acutely aware of just how quickly time is passing, and how little runway we have left before we launch her into the world. The craziness won’t last forever, and, again, it’s worth it.
We hope you are enjoying your summer. Hopefully you’re able to travel, spend time with friends and family, or maybe just catch up on projects or yardwork. Wherever your summer plans take you, we hope you have fun and stay safe.
