When I was in my early 20’s I joined the Air Force, which gave me the opportunity to meet my husband and travel overseas. My first base was in the Philippines, then Germany, where I explored Spain, Norway, England, Holland, France, Luxembourg and Austria. After getting out in the late 80s, travel shifted to family visits and domestic destinations like Zion, Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Glacier National Park.
I retired 8 years ago and hadn’t done much with my retirement savings beyond a few purchases. A close friend from my Federal civilian days received a 3-year assignment to Japan and invited me to visit. This past April I finally made the trip, timing it perfectly for the Cherry Blossom Festival at peak bloom in Northern Japan. During my 2 weeks I rode the Shinkansen bullet train, went beachcombing along the Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean, discovered a miniature Statue of Liberty in Oriase, visited 2 religious temples, and soaked in the food and culture. Since we both love horses, the Year of the Horse made it even more special.
Since my trip came in under budget, I used the remaining funds to fly my oldest step-daughter and granddaughter up from Louisiana. Neither has been to Utah since my granddaughter was a baby, nearly 29 years ago. Looking forward to their visit this month!
